A set is a packaging decision as much as a brush decision. The pieces, the case, the insert and the price have to be decided together, because changing one at the end usually means changing the other three.

Start with the hero shape

One brush in the set has to be the reason someone picks it up: usually a foundation, powder or blush brush in the size and density the target customer already uses. Build the rest of the set around that shape so the assortment has a centre rather than being a list.

Five to eight pieces is the usual first set

A first retail set is typically five to eight pieces. Below five it reads as an add-on; above eight the price point moves and the case has to grow with it. Eye sets tend to sit at five to seven pieces because the shapes are small and the set has to stay coherent.

Decide the case before the brushes

The case sets the price ceiling. A pouch is the cheapest route and works for e-commerce; a roll or a rigid case reads more premium but changes the packing and the freight profile. Inserts matter too: paper boxes are commonly 350g or 400g white card with matte or gloss lamination, taking a white-card or PVC insert, while gift boxes can use grey board with an EVA insert and a flocked surface.

Apply the logo once, at set level

Logo technique and placement should be agreed across the whole set — handles, ferrules, case and outer box — so one identity carries through. Laser engraving is the most durable and the usual default; silk-screen, colour printing and hot-stamping are available with their own trade-offs.

Keep the second order in mind

Whatever the set, some customers will want to rebuy one piece. Plan the single-SKU side at the same time as the set, so the brushes can be ordered open-stock later without re-cutting anything. That is also why the set category and the single-brush categories share the same ferrule and handle standards.

Compare actual set references before choosing the piece count

Use the HX-A008 5-piece makeup brush set with pouch as a compact set reference, and the 20-piece makeup brush set with selected double-ended brushes as a larger assortment reference. Compare the brush shapes your range needs; confirm the exact contents, materials, dimensions and packaging for the selected SKU before approving a sample.

Piece count is a separate decision from choosing custom development or stock. Our 15-piece custom versus stock brush set comparison shows that trade-off for three specific versions. For changes to the head, handle, logo or packaging, prepare a custom makeup brush brief.
